I was bouncing around the net today and landed on the Babies mit Bearden blog. I love reading what Damian Dunn writes in his blog entries... seriously... they make me smile. Most of the time Damian writes about food. He apparently spends a majority of his free time making food, pickling food or turning it into alcohol. He is usually excited about whatever he is cooking and usually gives some detail about how great it is going to taste (even if the description makes you think it would taste like wet shoe.)
I have worked with Damian for a long time now and have held several titles for him including Teacher, Coach, Teammate, Colleage and Friend. In all these years I don't think I have met anyone that was more consistently good, kind and (as was pointed out to me by one of his fans the other day) never has anything negative to say about anyone or anything. He absolutely refuses to say or do something that is at someone else's expense. He is a practical jokester and will go as far as he can tell you are comfortable with, but he won't make you look bad... he won't throw you under the bus or make himself look better by making you look worse.
If you have ever seen Damian play on stage (or been lucky enough to play on stage with him) you'll see very quickly that he is excited to play with you. He is excited to play with everyone he is playing with. He is excited o PLAY.
As far as I can tell Damian takes nothing for granted. I may be off on this particular point but from where I stand I don't think I've ever seen Damian let something roll by without seizing it... whether it is a conversation, a handshake or a tuna melt, he will squeeze all the happiness and connectedness out of it before it gets away.
I don't want to seem like I'm making Damian into a saint or anything... that would take some of the power away from how great he is... no, he manages all of this while being a normal guy with a real creative side and a kind heart.
If you don't have any idea who Damian is, come see him play at JaCKPie some night... Meet him afterward... buy him a drink... hand him wads of cash... give him the keys to your car. He is a great guy. You can check him out in any of these incarnations!
